Artistic activities and channeling my creative drive into physical works has held a valuable place in my life since the beginning. Art began as a hobby as I carried my sketch book with me everywhere and doodled as often as possible. As I grew older, I realized that this hobby had become a passion, as I was devoting a multitude of time and energy into pursuing what I loved. Beginning my first painting course semester one of my senior year, I decided to take up an independent study in my second semester in order to further explore what I could create with paint. Before this year I worked mainly in drawing, rather than painting. Because of this, my new experiences with paint allowed me to discover that I enjoy using bright, unrealistic colors, stylizing nature, and that I favor painting in oils or acrylics. I have enjoyed developing my own style that I am able to integrate into all of my work through the use of imagery of nature, patterning, and manipulation of color. Art motivates me to explore my own creative capabilities. When I challenge myself to push the boundaries of my typical work, I feel that I grow not only as an artist, but as person.
